Classic Meshes with Edgy in New Beauty Merger between L'Oreal and Urban Decay
New reports this morning have stated that the long-time
known drugstore cosmetic company L’Oreal, which is based in France, is buying
the trendy, hip Urban Decay Cosmetics – a more upscale, privately owned U.S.
brand that already has a large following in the makeup world.
According reports from the Wall Street Journal, the company is paying around $300-$400 million to Urban Decay to buy their brand.

This could be a good thing for all of us makeup lovers out
there who have always trusted L’Oreal for their availability and price point
and for continuing to deliver quality products over the years. For us younger,
aspiring beauty guru’s Urban Decay is also a name we are all familiar with as
well. Even for a very budget conscious
shopper like me, the need to splurge on products like the Urban Decay Primer
Potion has become a must.
L’Oreal gaining access to these highly pigmented eye shadows and makeup bases that are already raved about in the industry is a definite plus. For Urban Decay – the name L’Oreal spans the globe – so they are moving beyond their U.S. foothold with this merger.
For me, the availability and quality that is going to probably come out of this is exciting – but what will be even more interesting to see is if the price points increase– where you could probably buy $7 mascara at CVS from L’Oreal if you needed it before, without have to shell out like $20 for an Urban Decay Mascara. My hope is they find a middle ground and deliver exceptional quality – but at a price point that doesn’t break the bank each time you feel the need to do a little beauty hauling!
